Guruji BKS Iyengar

B. K. S. Iyengar,  (born December 14, 1918), is a living legend who has taught yoga in a unique way to all his students. He finds the meaning of the yoga sutras by his practical search and regular practice of yoga. Thus, he has helped all to experience the wisdom of the yoga sutras. His style of teaching yoga is called "Iyengar Yoga" and is now being followed by certified teachers across the world,  having devoted a lifetime  to its study.

He lives his life according to the philosophical precepts of Yoga. Iyengar is one of the earliest students of T Krishnamacharya, who is often referred to as "the father of modern yoga". While modern Yoga has arisen from the teachings of Krishnamacharya, it is Iyengar who has been primarily responsible for popularizing yoga around the world and bringing Yoga to ordinary people so that all can benefit. B.K.S. Iyengar’s knowledge of the body is unparalleled and the help that he gives to the ailing is amazing to see, he’s always discovering new things to help patients. BKS Iyengar’s discovery of using props for alignment, relaxation and healing purposes is in itself a blessing for mankind. Even though over 96, he still continues to teach, practice and INSPIRE.

On 26th January 1973, Guruji laid the foundation of Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) in Pune, named after his wife Smt. Ramamani Iyengar. The institute was inaugurated on January 19, 1975.
Guruji's teachings were first published in 1966 as Light on Yoga . This book has been translated into 18 languages. Today, he is the author of 14 books.
